Ask most coaches how their business is doing and you will get a feeling, not a number. "Things are going well." "It has been a slow month." These are gut feelings, not data.
The reason most coaches do not track anything is simple. Nobody taught them to. Coaching certifications teach you how to coach, not how to run a business.
Revenue and expenses: Many coaches know how much they charge but do not have a clear picture of their monthly income versus their costs. You need to know your profit and which services generate the most of it.
Client pipeline: How many inquiries are you getting? How many turn into booked calls? How many turn into paying clients? Without these numbers, you cannot identify where people are dropping off.
Content performance: Which posts get engagement? Which topics drive inquiries? Tracking this helps you double down on what works.
Client retention and results: How long do clients stay? Do they renew? Do they refer others? The answers tell you whether your coaching delivers enough value for long-term growth.
Three reasons. First, it feels overwhelming. Second, they are afraid of what the numbers might reveal. Third, they do not know where to start, so they never start at all.
Pick four numbers. Just four. One from each category above. Track them monthly. Write them down somewhere you will actually check. That is it.
